Long ago Swedish and German women were proud and happy to strap themselves in one of the most reputable foundation wear brands: Miss Mary of Sweden.
Their creations were on all specialized shop-windows, mail order catalogs and under most dresses.
Comfy, shaping, well built, durable. Firm support glamour spelled Miss Mary.
Needless to say I was hooked too. They felt so good, so feminine, powerful, complex, elaborate, mysterious.
Quite on the expensive side, they were very good buys in thrift stores.
A proper delicate hand wash, and voila, almost like new, that's how solid they were.
Back then foundations were not perceived as granny things, many young girls wore them daily as ordinary enhancement of their charms.
Including the very popular side-closure basque, a garment quasi impossible to don without help. Ask me how do I know ;)
I had procured one too and spent many hours dreaming to have someone dear close the hooks on me.
Then finally, after numerous contortions envision how wonderful it would be to have breasts stretching the cups.
Tries bags of rice. They had the weight but felt alien to my body.
Then, in the nineties it all vanished from the scene. Mail order catalogs suppressed dozens of pages, whop-windows went seamless and blunt.
The beloved structured Miss Mary was gone with the wind.
The brand still exists and concentrates exclusively on high-end bras and light support bodysuits and foundation wear.
Left-over stocks and items are now in the realm of Ebay and Etsy. Go for them before they definitely vanish victims of braletes and bio-cotton preformed horrors.
I tried to mail and call the headquarters of Miss Mary.
I never had any return to my inquiries and suggestions for a retro-line of proper structured foundations.
Good bye Miss Mary, you will be missed.
