I cashed a slightly more than insignificant check and decided to go lingerie shopping. New nighties precisely.

I love long nightgowns in blue or pink smooth flowing nylon. Nothing more than ordinary housewife's nightwear, abundant in stores 20 or even 10 years ago.

Target, a local mid to upper range department store. If they don't have it then who could ?

Well, happens we're after decent nightwear and all we find are cotton blended 100$+ items that can be had online for about 5 bucks a piece, postage included. Even less in multipack as household mops.

Shock and awe, those are top brands, bio cotton for maximum comfort and the usual save the earth psalm.

Ok Madam, please do not confuse, we are shopping for nightdresses, is this a lingerie department or a militant surplus outlet of sorts ?

At this point my Spouse, I could tell from her brilliant eyes, was to explode in one of her wonderful laughters but somehow by miracle she could hold her seriousness. How long ? Time to retreat...

On our way back we witnessed the proliferation of tragically sad sore excuses for bras, panties and chemises.

Cheaply produced press-formed cups, lousy lace-trims, shapewear that not so long ago would qualify as swimwear.

No sophistication, no craftsmanship, no detail, no glamour. All the horror of quickly glued together bits of lowest grade elasticized substances.

My spouse marks a halt and inquires on what's so special about this 80$+ or so bra ?

Firm support ? Has she ever worn or even seen firm support and how it compares to this press-formed thing with spaghetti shoulder straps and hard shell spherical padded cups ?

Ever heard of full-slips, petticoats, 3-pieces cup, longline's, girdles, all-in-one's ? Do they have stockings ? Not stay-ups, real garter tab stockings ?

Negative on all counts...

Back on our way we stop at the usual coffee shop.

Why do we pull such faces ? The owner is a long time acquaintance and at this time we're the only customers around.
