Why were (real) foundation garments kicked out of fashion trends ?

Blue plain semi-formal petticoat dress from the fifties.
Light boned vintage strapless basque with garters.
No matter the figure clothes fall better and look sophisticatedly appealing when worn over appropriate structured foundation garments.

So why are they so hard to find today while on display in shops a few decades ago ? Why even a proper delicious decorated full-slip rings the tune of "mission impossible" ?

Follow the money.
Cheap plain simple preformed T-Shirt bra.
 Product very similar to this.
Please be informed that our best asking price is 0.75$ per item FOB of 10'000 items.
This is what I got (in 2015) from an overseas supplier similar to these.

I never had the real intention to order 10'000 press-formed size 90C (euro) white bra thinghies. Nope.

My aim was to estimate the profit-margins of common ordinary supermarket grade bras sold at a price range of approximatively 10 to 15$ .

Head-spinning even thru the optic of taxes, overcosts for a comprehensive range of sizes and cups, logistics, display, stock management.

Further in the process I also learned that no manufacturer will consider the challenge to start a series of quality back-lace girdles or boned corselets at prices suitable for such profits.

Vintage Glamorise structured foundation garments, corselets, girdles, longline bras.
Factors such as:
  • Available machines or automated centers
  • Workers qualification
  • Cutting automation
  • Number of sewing operations
  • Total length of thread
  • Hardware supplies
  • Fabrics
would propel manufacturing costs way above the requirements of mass-distribution profits.

So here we are. Modern Girls might never know what's a girdle or corselet nor how they improve self-assurance by their unmistakable contribution to appearance.

Vintage open bottom back lace girdle with garter tabs.
Is all hope lost, forever ? No. The cross-dressing community is very keen to preserve and share it's knowledge.

  1. Bless you my dear sweet sissy, as there was nothing like the vintage long leg girdles in my opinion!
